Recreation camp Izumrudnoe (Emerald)

In the Chernobyl exclusion zone near the central road that leads from the city of Chernobyl to the nuclear power plant, the “Izumrudnoe” pioneer camp was located in the forest. This wonderful paradise for the military and their families, employees of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant before the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant gave joy, allowed to enjoy the beautiful nature of the woodlands and improve their health.

In Soviet times, in the pioneer camps, children were temporarily organized into pioneer detachments, and amateur activities groups worked. The camp is located in a beautiful pine forest with the cleanest air, although the land here is a bit contaminated with various radionuclides.

While here you can remember your carefree childhood, see a lot of summer houses with positive pictures from your favorite cartoons. There is a cinema, dance floor, swings, children’s slides and a shop.

Unfortunately, these beautiful, cozy houses have been completely abandoned for more than 30 years, the windows have been broken, the roofs are leaking, some of the houses have completely collapsed. Despite the general dark picture of destruction, these buildings with beautiful children’s drawings will easily take you to the Soviet childhood. Nowhere else have so many artifacts of Soviet times as in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone. This is an open-air museum, unfortunately not recognized.

The game Stalker also had the same location – Emerald. Many players are interested to visit the real location after passing a computer game.

Here you can walk for a long time, ride on a swing, go into the houses and imagine yourself as a child. Nowhere not to hurry and imbued with the beauty of a deserted world. For some people, this is a real pleasure.

Post-apocalyptic beauty sometimes violates the squeak of a dosimeter-radiometer. Being here without a tourist group, alone or together, you can fully enjoy the pleasure of exploring such a positive place in the exclusion zone.
